Steam Cleaner or Shampooer? Which is Better?
The carpet shampooer, unlike the steam cleaners, uses cold water, soap, and a vacuum to remove the dirty liquid. Instead of steam, it’s used to scrub the carpet fibers. If you want to use carpet shampooers on cat urine stains, they are fine. You can still remove pee from carpets if you do not have one or don’t know how to use it.

Enzymatic cleaners contain enzymes that break down urine stains and eliminate odors. They are usually available in spray bottles for ease of application. This is the simplest method for cleaning cat pee from carpets.
First, use paper towels to blot up as much stain as possible. Spray the enzymatic cleanser on the stain and make sure it is completely covered. Follow the instructions on the bottle. Most cleaners require 10-15 minutes for maximum effectiveness.
Use a dry cloth to wipe up any cleaner. If necessary, switch to a clean dry cloth and continue blotting the stain until it is completely dry.
If you notice that the stain or smell persists after the area has been thoroughly dried, repeat these steps.
2.Vinegar & Baking Soda
Mix 1.5 cups warm water and 1/2 cup vinegar. This solution can be left in a bowl, or added to a sprayer.
Use a clean, dry cloth to remove as much pee as possible from the carpet.
Pour or spray the vinegar mixture on the stain. Let it sit 5 minutes. The vinegar will kill bacteria and neutralize odors. The carpet will smell like vinegar, but it will fade much faster than the cat pee odor.
Baking soda can be used to cover the vinegar mixture. Allow it to sit overnight in order to absorb all of the remaining cat urine smell.
Baking soda will remove stains from your carpet if you vacuum it up the next morning.
3.Hydrogen Peroxide Dish Soap and Baking Soda
With a clean, dry cloth, remove as much urine as possible from the carpet.
Baking soda can be used to cover the stain. Mix 3/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide 3% with 1 teaspoon dish detergent while the stain is still sitting. Be sure that the dish soap doesn’t contain bleach.
Pour the solution on top of the baking soda and gently rub it into the carpet with a soft cloth. Don’t scrub! Scrubbing may spread the urine to a larger surface, causing a more noticeable stain. Let the solution dry overnight. Vacuum up the baking soda in the morning.
Repeat Cleaning
Repeat the cleaning procedure or use a different method if you still notice the smell. Make sure that no trace of pee smell is left. This could be an indication to your cat to pee again.
Use a carpet cleaner if all else fails. If you don’t have one, you can rent one. Many carpet shampoos contain ingredients that fight urine stains and can be used to remove pet odor. Don’t use a steam cleaning machine!
